The Name
Blue Row 1935 is named for my grandfather, Onsy Makar.
He was born in Egypt in 1935 and moved to Boston, where he lived two lives at once — chemist by profession, painter by heart. He spent decades painting the same subject: rows of blue sailboats, resting on quiet water.
He also cared about mental health, at a time when everyone around him thought it wasn't a thing. He talked about it anyway.
He passed in 2022. This brand carries his name, his blue, and his stubbornness about the conversations that matter.
The Mission
More than 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness each year. Fewer than half ever receive treatment — not because help doesn't exist, but because silence still wins too often.
We make clothing because it's the most visible thing you own. What you wear gets seen, gets asked about, and can open a conversation that's hard to start any other way. We want to bridge the gap between therapy and those who need it most.
Every Blue Row piece is designed to do exactly that.
The Founder
I'm Emma Mankarious, and I started Blue Row 1935 to make my grandfather proud.
I watched him care about people's minds before it was acceptable, and I inherited that conviction along with his paintings. Blue Row is my way of finishing the sentence he started.
We're still early. I'm building this slowly and honestly, and I'd love for you to be part of it from the beginning.
